Erik Karlsson and Rickard Rakell each had a goal and an assist, and Bryan Rust had two assists for the Penguins (3-6-1), who have lost four in a row and seven of their past eight (1-6-1). Arturs Silovs made 24 saves.

“My viewpoint is that we’re facing some adversity right now,” Pittsburgh coach Dan Muse said. “We have to stay together. We have to just be looking to make gains here each day, definitely each game and we have to make the way we play on the defensive side a priority and consistent.”

The Penguins finished their four-game road trip 0-4-0.

“We just didn’t put a full game together,” Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby said of the trip. “We had leads, we fought back. I just feel like we didn’t put a complete game together.”

Egor Chinakhov cut the Utah lead to 5-3 at 2:55 of the third period. He caught a pass in stride from Andrei Kuzmenko, powered past the defense and snuck a shot five-hole.

Declan Carlile brought the Penguins to within 5-4 at 14:55, jumping on a rebound from Rakell’s point shot and burying it from the left face-off circle.

Cossa denied Ben Kindel‘s point-blank chance with a sprawling left pad save in the dying seconds of the third to preserve the win.

“I was like, ‘Is the game over yet?’” Cossa said. “So, I saw the puck go out, and then there’s quite a bit of bodies in front of me. So, make sure that we get the win, and then (MacKenzie Weegar) and (Schmidt) were right there. So, pretty awesome.”
