Sombra Cycles is a small Spanish brand that makes steel bikes from European alloys. The Cervus is the most bikepacking-oriented of several interesting, dirt-focused models in its catalog. Check out the details of this steel ATB below…
Sombra Cycles is a small production bike company based in Spain. Pablo Hervás and Manolo Serrano started it, both with years of industry experience in bike shops and as builders. They joined forces to create Sombra Cycles and deliver frames at a lower price than some of their custom work. They offer a few models across disciplines, and their most bikepacking-friendly option is the Sombra CERVUS. The bike is a steel ATB with boost spacing, clearance for a 29 x 2.4″ tire, and tons of mounting points on the frame and fork for racks and other gear.
The bike uses a 73mm bottom bracket standard, features externally routed cable guides, can run 1x or 2x drivetrains, and has an estimated base frameset weight of 4.85 pounds. The CERVUS also has a dropper port on the seat tube, a Ø30 seat collar, and adjustable rear dropouts. It’s available as a frameset or as a complete, with frames starting at $1,450 and completes specced at $3,200. The complete CERVUS has a 1 x 12 Shimano Deore drivetrain, Ritchey Zeta Comp wheels, and a finishing kit from Ritchey.

Sombra also has another intriguing model that could work for bikepacking, but it isn’t quite as capable. Their new GRUS is a gravel bike capable of fitting a 2″ tire with some mounts for racks and other cargo. Interestingly, while it is specced with a carbon fork, the brand also offers a steel option. The GRUS uses Reynolds 725 tubing and starts at $1,500 for the frameset.
Head to SombraCycles.com for details on the CERVUS and the GRUS.
