Having spent the first six weeks working with the No. 1 broadcast team for CBS’ NFL coverage, JJ Watt has received a new contract from the network to remain in the role going forward.

CBS Sports announced on Thursday that Watt has agreed to a multiyear deal to be the lead game analyst as part of the network’s NFL coverage.

Watt joined CBS prior to the start of the 2025 season. He worked alongside Ian Eagle and Evan Washburn on the No. 2 team.

CBS elevated Watt to the No. 1 team with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson in July after Tony Romo was placed on indefinite leave following his arrest in Milwaukee on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence.

Romo, who signed a 10-year, $180 million extension with the network in 2020 and CBS Sports announced a parting of ways on Oct. 2. The network said in the same announcement that Watt would remain part of the crew with Nantz and Wolfson.

Watt is the third game analyst Nantz has worked with since CBS elevated Nantz to being the lead play-by-play announcer for NFL games in 2004. He spent nine seasons paired with Romo and 13 seasons with Phil Simms from 2004 to ’16.

The Nantz-Watt-Wolfson group will be in Baltimore this weekend for Sunday’s AFC North showdown between the Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals.

As part of the No. 1 broadcast team, Watt figures to be on the call for Super Bowl 62 after the 2027 season when CBS is next scheduled to air the game.
