An internationally acclaimed Canadian comic will hit the Lower Mainland for three shows in November.

Comedian J.J. Whitehead is set to perform at Yuk Yuk’s Surrey Nov. 5, at the Red Barn in Delta Nov. 6, and at the Hilton Downtown Vancouver Nov. 8.

Arjun Rudra, Yuk Yuk’s B.C. producer, said his team was “excited” to be able to introduce B.C. audiences to Whitehead and his unique brand of comedy.

“J.J. Whitehead is exactly the kind of comedian we love bringing to our stages,” Rudra said in a press release. “He’s had an incredible international career, worked alongside some of the biggest names in comedy, and has the kind of experience and stage presence that makes for an outstanding live show.

Hailing from Cole Harbour, N.S., Whitehead cut his teeth on the British comedy circuit before going on U.S. TV. He is a BBC New Comedy Award winner. He wrote for three seasons of Comedy Central’s The Jim Jefferies Show. He also toured as Jefferies’ opening act, including the Night Talker Tour (2019).

Whitehead’s television credits include: Live at the Comedy Store (UK), The World Comedy Tour (Comedy Central), The Stand Up Show (BBC) and his own one-hour Comedy Now! (CTV Comedy) special in Canada.

“A veteran of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, he is known for his sharp observational humour, clever storytelling and distinctly Canadian perspective.”

In the release, Whitehead said he was looking forward to coming back to Canada to perform.

“I’ve spent so much of my career travelling and performing around the world, but there’s something special about getting on stage in front of a Canadian audience,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to these shows and having some fun with the crowds in B.C.”
