Caguiat is described as an artist whose work “explores the relationship between architecture, spirituality, and the rituals embedded within everyday urban infrastructure”. He works across several disciplines, and his show at the Serpentine, “Change Ringing,” includes painting, sculpture, printmaking, sound, and film in a site-responsive installation. The most dominant aspect of the show is sound – inescapable in each room – formed by the sometimes hollow, sometimes curt, sometimes deep and brassy timbre of individual bell chimes. Although seemingly arbitrary, the aural experience has been intentionally choreographed: Lily Pickett composed the score, drawing on an assortment of seemingly disparate influences.
