The BC Conservation Officer Service is asking for the public’s help after a deer was illegally shot and killed with a rifle in a residential neighbourhood in Nanaimo early Friday morning.
Conservation officers say the incident happened between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 23 in the area of Wildlife Place and Bird Sanctuary Drive, near Buttertubs Marsh.
The service says the use of a firearm in a residential neighbourhood poses a significant public safety concern.
Investigators are now asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting, noticed suspicious activity in the area or has information about the incident to come forward.
No information about a suspect has been released.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the BC Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277 or submit a report online through the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) program.
