On the weekend he could become world champion, Kimi Antonelli secured a crucial pole position for the United States Grand Prix.

It was tipped to be a battle between the Ferraris and Max Verstappen; however, it was Antonelli who stole the show by claiming pole on a 1m 34.035.

Antonelli had almost two-tenths on Verstappen who completes the front row, while it was the Dutchman’s Red Bull team-mate Isack Hadjar who claimed third on the grid.

In a hugely disappointing session for Ferrari at the Circuit of the Americas, Charles Leclerc had to settle for fourth with Lewis Hamilton in fifth.
