Inter Toronto brought their 2026 Canadian Premier League campaign to a close on Sunday, as they defeated Atlético Ottawa 2-1 at York Lions Stadium.

Ottawa, who were already guaranteed to finish third in the table, will move on swiftly from the defeat because they’ll play Forge FC in the CPL Playoffs next weekend.

The hosts, knowing they were already eliminated from playoff contention heading into the game, opted to give some pro opportunities to young players on Sunday. Inter Toronto’s starting lineup included 20-year-old Kai Campos and 17-year-old Nico Andrada, and the bench featured four youngsters from the Inter Toronto Pathway academy system.

Toronto came out of the gates hot, out-shooting Atleti seven to four in the first half, and eventually it paid off, as Ariel Almagro found the net just before halftime.

Inter continued to control the affair through the second frame, and Julian Altobelli secured the win in the 90th minute with a screamer from the top of the box.

Ottawa pulled a goal back at the very end, as Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau buried a penalty to bring his final regular season tally up to seven.

That wouldn’t be enough for Atleti to get anything out of this match, though.

It ended 2-1, and Inter Toronto headed into their offseason on a high note.

Ottawa, meanwhile, will shift focus immediately, because they host a playoff game next Sunday. Forge FC will head to the capital to begin the CPL Playoffs with the first leg of their semifinal tie.
