In a distressing case that spans several Ontario cities, Richard Neil stands trial in Brampton for the alleged sexual assaults of three children in the 1990s. The incidents began in August 1992 near Idlewood Park in Kitchener, where an 8-year-old boy was reportedly lured into the woods and assaulted. This case is part of ‘Project Woodland,’ which linked subsequent assaults, including one involving a 10-year-old boy in Brampton in 1994 and a 15-year-old girl in Oakville in 1995, through DNA evidence.

Neil, who is now 67, was arrested in British Columbia in March 2024. He faces 17 charges and has pleaded not guilty, testifying in his own defense. His lawyer, Leo Adler, emphasized that the case hinges on identifying the responsible party, rather than whether the assaults occurred. As the trial proceeds, the Crown has presented numerous witnesses, including police officers and DNA experts.
