A California fisherman got an unexpected jolt off Cambria in San Luis Obispo County on Monday morning when something slammed into the bottom of his kayak, dumping him into the water about a mile from shore. Fox News reports he climbed back in and started paddling toward land, but the boat soon flooded due to punctures in the hull. He swam the final stretch and made it to the beach uninjured. The Cambria Fire Department later retrieved the damaged kayak and gear, and a shark expert who reviewed photos of the kayak said it’s reasonable to suspect the boat was hit by a shark. The same stretch near Leffingwell Landing saw similar kayak-shark run-ins in 2012 and 2019; both men in those cases made it back to shore unharmed.
