The results of Monday night’s municipal election have been verified and approved. And while the numbers show an increase in voter turnout in Brampton, they were still below the provincial average.

The city said on Friday that all results from Monday’s vote have been verified and approved by the City Clerk and Returning Officer, showing a 28.77 per cent turnout of the eligible voter base of 428,012.

That’s an increase of 35,978 voters compared to Brampton’s 2022 municipal election, when a little more than 24.5 per cent of the city’s 354,884 eligible electors voted in Brampton’s 2022 municipal election, and down from 34.5 per cent in the 2018 vote.

And while this year’s turnout was higher than in 2022, Brampton was more than 10 per cent lower than the provincial average of 36 per cent of eligible voters casting ballots across Ontario.

The official results confirm the election night call made by INSAUGA Canada – every sitting Brampton politician who ran for re-election won their race, while two new faces will join the incumbents to make up the next Brampton City Council.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown cruised into a third term, with the official election night numbers showing he won with nearly 55 per cent of more than 120,000 votes cast.

Of Brampton’s 10 council seats, seven councillors looked to keep jobs on council for another four years and won their races – Paul Vicente, Michael Palleschi, Martin Medeiros, Rowena Santos, Navjit Kaur Brar, Dennis Keenan and Dennis Keenan.

Former Wards 7 and 8 City and Regional Coun. Pat Fortini left a seat open when he decided to run in a failed bid for Caledon council, where City Coun. Rod Power ran and won the position left open by Fortini.

The new councillors are Taran Chahal (a former Conservative Party of Canada candidate for Brampton-Centre in the 2025 federal election) for Wards 7 and 8, and Sukhman Sangha (who defeated former Coun. Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, who looked to regain his seat following sexual misconduct and harassment allegations and a loss in the 2022 election) for Wards 9 and 10.

The newly-elected Brampton City Council will be inaugurated on Nov. 16, with a Special Meeting of City Council scheduled for Nov. 18 to appoint three of the elected City Councillors as additional regional representatives on Peel Regional Council.
