You can see them live Saturday night at The Pearl.
In what continues to be a standout year for Vancouver music, rising hardcore outfit PISS has released its debut album.
On Friday, the band’s new record you made me / skin on linen was released on Paper Bag Records in Canada and Sub Pop around the globe.
Leading up to the album release, PISS had shared songs “Rote Zora. ‘Resistance is Possible.’ Emma, no. 6, June 1984, pp. 39-41.,” “blocking a scene you can’t remember,” and “time loop at hot slit.”
And on Friday PISS also released “i wanted to be a singer,” as a single.
Lead singer Taylor Zantingh describes the track as a sludgy, jarring noise-rock song.
“Using plain language, the singer directly addresses the listener without literary devices or narrative techniques. It is an introduction to the album: this record is not entertainment but a necessity born from the impossibility of writing truth without addressing this trauma,” Zantingh says in a press release. “It contrasts childhood dreams of performing with a painful reality, and forces listeners to confront that reality before they engage with the record.”
Along with bandmates Tyler Paterson (guitar), Gavin Moya (bass) and Garreth Roberts (drums), Zantingh depicts a childhood shaped by structural, systemic and intimate violence on the new record.
you made me / skin on linen was recorded in January 2025 with Colin Stewart at Hive Creative Labs in Victoria.
The release comes as the band comes off a North American tour with Gilla Band.
PISS plays a show in Vancouver on Saturday (Oct. 31) at The Pearl. Tickets are selling for $35.
Afterwards, PISS will continue their busy touring schedule with a number of shows and festival appearances in Europe.
