Two Brampton men are facing driving-related charges following separate incidents on rural roads in Ontario, including one driver accused of stunt driving after allegedly travelling nearly twice the posted speed limit.

In the first incident, a 23-year-old was stopped by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on Colborne Street West at Lois Crescent in the County of Brant, 100 km southwest of Brampton on Sunday, Oct. 25.

An officer conducting speed enforcement around 1:30 p.m. spotted a vehicle travelling at approximately 110 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone.

The driver was subsequently charged with stunt driving for excessive speed, speeding between 1 and 49 km/h over the limit, and failing to surrender a driver’s licence.

His licence was suspended for 30 days, and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days under Ontario’s stunt-driving legislation.

In a separate incident several days later, another man was charged following a collision involving a commercial motor vehicle in Middlesex County.

OPP officers responded to Melbourne Road, north of Murphy Drive in the Township of Adelaide Metcalfe, 180 km west of Brampton, shortly after noon on Thursday, Oct. 29.

Police say the commercial vehicle had entered a ditch. The 43-year-old Brampton driver was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

Following an investigation, the driver was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

Strathroy Fire Services also attended the collision scene to assist.

Neither of the men has been publicly identified by police.

The incidents serve as another reminder that dangerous driving can have serious consequences, particularly on rural roads where posted speed limits and road conditions can vary considerably.
