Sure, designers create beauty in other people’s homes, but what sparks their creativity when designing their own spaces? To find out, we asked five of our faves to pick their favorite room in their own home—which is kinda like asking a parent to choose their favorite child, but we did it anyway!

A Kitchen With Historic Vibes

“While I love many rooms in my home, the kitchen truly is the heart of it,” says London designer Uns Hobbs. She wanted the extension she built onto her traditional British Victorian to feel like it belonged, so she went with classic architectural molding, paneling, and French doors. “So many fun evenings have been spent around the island,” she says. One last question: Can we come?

A Dreamy Bedroom

“My bedroom is my sanctuary, a place for sleeping, streaming shows, and snuggling with my cat, Verbena,” says New Orleans–based designer (and author!) Dabito. The calming wall color (Quietude SW 6212) creates a peaceful airiness and pairs well with the warmth of natural materials. Of course, as the founder of creative studio Old Brand New, Dabito pulled in his signature mix of new (the table lamp from his line with Mitzi) and old (a vintage bedside table and antique Chinese rug).

A Moody Blue Kitchen

The husband-and-wife duo behind the New York City–based design studio White Arrow embraced an inky teal (by Fine Paints of Europe) in their 1850s farmhouse kitchen. The deep hue turns their white ceramics into silhouette art and makes the vintage Aga stove pop. “We love how cozy the kitchen feels, with its rich blue cabinetry and wide-plank antique pine floors,” Keren says. “The views of the land bring a strong sense of place, too.”

An Office That Works

Who said a home office has to be all work and no play? Designer Marie Cloud designed hers to be a space where creativity and comfort meet, energizing her while she toils away in Charlotte, North Carolina. A wallpaper from her collab with Spoonflower (“Its boldness mirrors my personality,” she says), plus an always-changing inspo board and spots to think, make it a room she actually wants to spend time in.

Fun Family Room

“This room is so special to me because it reminds me of my design evolution and how far I’ve come,” says Lexington, Kentucky–based designer Isabel Ladd. It started as her formal dining room and morphed into a living room, as she layered prints (the wallpaper is also a Spoonflower collab), textiles, and art, and swapped out the furniture. “My family feels cozy here—enveloped in a space that’s undoubtedly lived in and loved in.” Meals now happen in an adjacent, smaller room that she says feels more casual and better suited to her brood.
