Jake Paul won’t deny that Canelo Alvarez is still an elite boxer at 36, but he sees a path to victory despite the high odds.
Alvarez had his first bout since dropping a unanimous decision to fellow boxing legend Terence Crawford back in Sept. 2025. Alvarez battled Christian Mbilli this past Saturday with the WBC super middleweight title at stake. Mbilli lacked the aggressive style he’s been known for, as Alvarez had him wary of counters throughout their 12-round affair. Ultimately, the Mexican superstar scored the unanimous decision victory to win back the WBC gold.
Paul, who has long called for a showdown with Alvarez, reacted to the result on his X account. “The Problem Child” didn’t exactly throw shade at Alvarez given that his performance was on point, but he did mention a potential hole that he believes he can exploit if the two ever share the ring.
Out of the ring for 13 months but still the same old Canelo. Respect.
Did take a lot of punches though. We will dance my friend, we will dance.

Paul and Alvarez were once in talks to share the ring, but negotiations fell through. Back in May 2025, Paul told Ariel Helwani that he’s confident he would’ve pulled off a major upset over the surefire future boxing Hall of Famer.
“I would have beaten Canelo, for sure. Even just watching him against Scull. He’s just washed up, inactive, doesn’t throw a lot of punches, and not very strong,” Paul said. “What’s crazy is one of my main training partners for the last two years is the one who ‘lost’ to William Scull. He was the one who should’ve been fighting Canelo. His name is Vladimir Shishkin. He beat Scull way worse than Canelo did, and this is the guy I’ve been sparring every day for two-and-a-half years, going toe-to-toe with.”
Paul is set to have his first boxing match since suffering a broken jaw at the hands Anthony Joshua back in late 2025. While Paul’s next opponent hasn’t been revealed at this time, he is scheduled to return to the ring on Christmas Eve in Dubai.
