Vancouver netminder Oliver Bryks was besieged by Cougars players at the opening of Sunday’s game at Langley Events Centre, one that saw the hosts score four goals in less than five minutes.
Giants made a valiant third-period comeback but ultimately lost 5-4.
“I don’t think we gave Bryks enough support,” Giants Head Coach and General Manager Michael Dyck said.
“I just didn’t think we played fast enough [in the first period]. And that’s not just with the puck, that’s without the puck,” Dyck commented.
Vancouver falls to 9-4-1-2 on the season while the Cougars improve their record to 4-7-0-2.
Giants opened the scoring with a solo effort goal from Brett Olson, his first of the year at the 5:14 mark., but then allowed four consecutive goals in less than five minutes.
Trailing 4-1 entering the third, Vancouver scored three times to tie the game 4-4 thanks to goals from Joe Iginla, Dennis Emesibe and Kaleb Hartmann, but Prince George broke the deadlock with 64 seconds left to steal the 5-4 victory.
The Giants’ special teams were strong again: going 2-for-2 on the penalty kill and 1-for-3 on the power play.
Next, Vancouver will host Tri-City Friday, Nov 6 at LEC. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
