JUMP TO:
Week 9’s “Monday Night Football” matchup was billed as a possible postseason precursor between two of football’s finest sides.
Instead, it proved to be a wire-to-wire beatdown. The Bears downed the Seahawks, 34-17, to pick up their sixth win of the year.
Chicago was dominant in all phases of the game, amassing more yards and time of possession and forcing more turnovers than its counterparts. The Bears even added a blocked kick for good measure, making their contender credentials all the more evident under the bright lights of Lumen Field.
Caleb Williams (24-of-34 passing, 247 yards, one touchdown) and D’Andre Swift (27 carries, 69 yards, three touchdowns) produced the goods on offense. New acquisition Jeffrey Simmons returned the favor on the defensive side, tying for the team lead in tackles while collecting one sack and two tackles for loss.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba (six catches, 118 yards, one touchdown) did what he has tended to do for much of the year, producing highlights in bunches. And yet, he finished with fewer yards than he averaged coming into the game on Monday, a minor victory for an otherwise stout Chicago defense.

11:03 p.m.: INTERCEPTION! That might just do it! Austin Booker — the man who swatted Myers’ kick away — got a hand to Darnold’s toss. The ball went spiraling before landing in James Lynch’s waiting arms. He carries the ball deeper into Seahawks territory. Chicago could land the death knell here with a score.

10:53 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! Chicago benefitted from its tardiness, with the Seahawks seeing a third-down stop vanish after a flag was thrown for a delay-of-game after the play. Two plays later, the Bears are in the end zone. Kalif Raymond raced 39 yards down the field on the screen play to get Chicago inside of the five. Swift finished the series by tip-toeing into the end zone from short range.

10:25 p.m.: Contentious call on Smith-Njigba, who is deemed to have pushed off on Kyler Gordon as he made his break on the curl route. The OPI call wipes away an impressive gain that would have brought Seattle on the doorstep of the end zone. Instead, the Seahawks are greeted with second-and-long.
10:15 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! Swift finds pay dirt from short range as Chicago’s advantage swells to two possessions once more.

9:37 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! Who else but Smith-Njigba to bring Seattle out of its stupor. The standout pass-catcher shakes Tyrique Stevenson loose with a feint before racing underneath a Darnold feather to cut into Chicago’s lead. Myers misses the extra point, however.

9:31 p.m.: FIELD GOAL! Santos’ trifecta brings Chicago’s lead to double-digits.
Bears 13, Seahawks 3
9:24 p.m.: Johnson and Co. get tricky, putting Williams (yes, Williams) in motion to get Seattle’s defense off its moors. The chicanery worked a charm; Williams found Odunze after fielding a toss from D’Andre Swift, amassing 28 yards in the process. Chicago is back in scoring position as the frame nears its conclusion.

9:18 p.m.: Seattle’s offense just hasn’t been able to get things going thus. Darnold has just 39 yards thus far, 37 of which came on those two screen passes to Smith-Njigba.
9:13 p.m.: FIELD GOAL! Cairo Santos splits the uprights from 44 yards out as Chicago extends its advantage.
Bears 10, Seahawks 3
9:11 p.m.: Williams is keeping things simple so far. He has completed all but four of his pass attempts thus far, finding success against Seattle’s vaunted defense via death by 1,000 paper cuts. Known for his gunslinging ways, Williams’ discernment has proven useful for Johnson’s bunch through 20 minutes.
9:05 p.m.: Simmons continues to make his presence felt in the trenches. He’s already up to five tackles and two tackles for loss in addition to his sack. Based on this outing, it’s easy to see why Chicago felt comfortable surrendering multiple firsts to land him.
8:55 p.m.: FIELD GOAL! Jason Myers cans from short-range to get the Seahawks on the board.
Bears 7, Seahawks 3
End of first quarter: Bears 7, Seahawks 0
8:50 p.m.: Another Smith-Njigba screen takes the Seahawks on the cusp of Chicago’s goal line.
8:47 p.m.: Jaxon Smith-Njigba turns a screen pass into a 20-yard gain, slipping past would-be tacklers before creeping comfortably inside Chicago territory.
8:40 p.m.: Darnold appeared to take a late shot to the head/neck area after sliding short of the sticks on third down. However, Chicago avoids the flag. Looked a dubious no-call in real-time. Seattle will send the ball back to the Bears, hoping Chicago doesn’t add to its advantage.

8:36 p.m.: Simmons bursts through the mire to record his first sack with Chicago. Unfortunately, it was followed up by a facemask call against one of his teammates. Still, the ease by which he got to Darnold should excite those of a Bears disposition.

8:30 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! Chicago strikes first, with Williams finding Luther Burden III to open the scoring. Wondrous opening drive for Johnson’s team, which amassed 80 yards in 17 plays and nearly nine minutes before hitting pay dirt.

8:20 p.m.: Well, that was quick. Three plays and the Seahawks are already off the field. Let’s see what the Bears offense has in store for us today.
8:15 p.m.: And we’re off! Seattle starts the game with the ball in its grasp.
Pre-game
8:00 p.m.: Here’s our first look at Nelson in Seahawks threads. He’ll look to keep Darnold upright against a talented Chicago bunch.

7:30 p.m.: Tonight’s matchup represents something of a grudge match. Under Ben Johnson’s tutelage, the Bears have emerged as one of the league’s highest-octane offenses, averaging 30.25 points in games Williams has started this year. Seattle, meanwhile, concedes just 17.9 points per contest, the third-lowest mark in the league. We’ll see who wins out when the final horn sounds.
7:00 p.m.: Williams is outfitted in his signature all-black cleats. The Caddix logo looks to appear prominently on the all-black number. After all of his fines, it’s unclear whether that will remain the case come kickoff.

6:30 p.m.: While there are numerous stars set to take the stage at Lumen Field on Monday, few will garner as much attention as Caleb Williams and Sam Darnold. Expect plenty of interest in how these two sidewinders look tonight.
6:00 p.m.: Tonight’s contest pits a pair of longtime former AFC South standouts against one another. Former Colts All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson will make his Seahawks debut against recent Bears acquisition (and former Titans man) Jeffery Simmons.
