QUEBEC — It is a law many Quebecers are unaware of, yet it remains dear to the leaders of the provincial capital.
When Quebec Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon took to his Facebook page Sunday to announce he has agreed to meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney, he invoked a law that says the meeting should be held in Quebec City.
“I accept the invitation and I thank him for his change of tone,” St-Pierre Plamondon said. “To nobody’s surprise, I simply ask that this meeting be held respecting the laws of Quebec — that is to say, the law on the Commission de la capitale nationale that stipulates meetings of this nature should be held in Quebec City.”
