People who use the recreational trails at Sandalwood Park in Brampton may encounter temporary closures and detours as construction gets underway on a project to prevent erosion along Etobicoke Creek.

The City of Brampton, working with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), is carrying out improvements to stabilize eroding creek banks and protect the nearby recreational trail and park infrastructure.

Construction is expected to continue through the winter, with work and final site restoration scheduled to be completed by Spring 2027.

The city is advising trail users to watch for temporary closures and detours as construction progresses and to follow posted signs when navigating the area.

The project is intended to address erosion along Etobicoke Creek, where deteriorating creek banks can threaten nearby trails and other park features.

Bank stabilization work helps limit further erosion and protect public spaces from damage caused by water movement and changing creek conditions.

The Sandalwood Park project is part of broader efforts to protect recreational infrastructure along Etobicoke Creek. A similar trail protection project is also underway at nearby Paul Palleschi Park.

The work is being undertaken by the City of Brampton in partnership with the TRCA, which works with municipalities to protect watersheds and manage natural hazards, including erosion and flooding.

While construction may temporarily disrupt access to portions of the trail, the improvements are intended to help preserve the route and ensure it remains available for community use in the years ahead.
