The New England Patriots have some decisions to make.

The roster will be cut to 53 players by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, meaning that the Patriots must decide who has impressed enough this preseason to earn a spot. While there is the opportunity to add players to the practice squad, they must clear waivers first, which always leaves some unknowns.

As of Sunday night, the Patriots have already released 15 players: TE Jaheim Bell, RB Micah Bernard, DT Philip Blidi, CB Isaiah Bolden, TE Cole Fotheringham, WR Phil Lutz, LB R.J. Moten, DT Kyle Peko, CB Jordan Polk, LB Monty Rice, G Tyrese Robinson, G Sidy Sow, RB Shane Watts QB Ben Wooldridge, and G Layden Robinson.

So, with only one more day to go, it’s the perfect time for one last roster projection. Here it is:

Quarterbacks (2)

IN: Drake Maye, Joshua Dobbs

It came as no surprise when the Patriots decided to release undrafted rookie free agent Ben Wooldridge. He had a nice preseason, but it wasn’t enough to earn him a spot on the roster, and possibly not even enough to make the practice squad. With that, this position has remained the same throughout the summer, with only Drake Maye and Joshua Dobbs making the active roster. The team will likely decide to add a third quarterback to the practice squad.

Running Backs (3)

IN: Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson, Antonio Gibson

The Patriots have a dynamite trio in Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson, and Antonio Gibson. All have very different skills that can alter the game in numerous ways. So with that, carrying only three backs makes the most sense for New England. As for Terrell Jennings and JaMycal Hasty, keep an eye out for those two to be possible practice squad additions.

Wide Receivers (7)

IN: Stefon Diggs, DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, Efton Chism III, Javon Baker

Injured Reserve: Kendrick Bourne

While Javon Baker hasn’t done much this summer to rise through the depth chart as a receiver, his contributions on special teams have earned him a spot, especially with top gunner Marcellas Dial out for the year. As for Kendrick Bourne, it’s clear the team values him, and he has experience in Josh McDaniels’ offense, so he could either be a trade candidate or might possibly start the year on injured reserve since he hasn’t practiced since the beginning of the month. Jeremiah Webb’s impressive third preseason game could possibly keep him in New England a bit longer, but it would be on the practice squad.

Tight End (3)

IN: Hunter Henry, Austin Hooper, Jack Westover

Outside of Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper, the Patriots’ depth at the tight end position is seriously lacking. However, McDaniels has been known to utilize a fullback on his roster, and Jack Westover has been filling in there this summer.

Offensive Line (9)

IN: Garrett Bradbury (C), Ben Brown (C/G), Marcus Bryant (OT), Will Campbell (OT), Vederian Lowe (OT), Morgan Moses (OT), Mike Onwenu (G), Jared Wilson (G/C), Caedan Wallace (G)

The offensive Line remains a question heading into the season. Four out of five of the starting positions are locked in, with the battle at left guard remaining. Caedan Wallace provides some necessary depth at guard, while Cole Strange’s struggles in the final preseason game make it seem like his time with the Patriots is nearing its end.

Defensive Line (5)

IN: Christian Barmore, Joshua Farmer, Jeremiah Pharms, Khyiris Tonga, Milton Williams

This group has been pretty much the same all summer, and with Christian Barmore finally healthy along with the skills from Milton Williams and Khyiris Tonga, this group can be powerful this season.

Edge Defenders (6)

IN: K’Lavon Chaisson, Truman Jones, Harold Landry, Elijah Ponder, Bradyn Swinson, Keion White

The Patriots have a lot of pass rushers. Truman Jones has been a clear coach’s favorite, even being named an offseason award winner, while undrafted rookie free agent Elijah Ponder has the staff providing rave reviews about his play. K’Lavon Chaisson, Harold Landry, and Keion White come as no surprise. Anfernee Jennings remains off the list, but the hope is the team will be able to get a trade done just in time so they don’t have to release him or sacrifice at another position to keep him.

Linebackers (4)

IN: Christian Elliss, Jack Gibbens, Marte Mapu, Robert Spillane

Injured Reserve: Jahlani Tavai

Jahlani Tavai has been sidelined for the summer, making him a strong candidate to begin the season on injured reserve. That opens up a spot for Marte Mapu, who finished the preseason strong.

Cornerbacks (5)

IN: Alex Austin, Carlton Davis, Christian Gonzalez, D.J. James, Marcus Jones

D.J. James has been a training camp standout, doing more than enough to solidify a roster spot. Rookie Kobee Minor has also been making a strong case for a spot, but with five cornerbacks ahead on the depth chart, he is likely a practice squad candidate.

Safeties (6)

IN: Kyle Dugger, Jaylinn Hawkins, Jabrill Peppers, Dell Pettus, Brenden Schooler, Craig Woodson

Kyle Dugger has been on and off these roster projections so many times, but he has improved a lot this preseason, especially in the eyes of Vrabel, who has complimented him publicly a few times. The ideal situation would be for the Patriots to trade him, but if they don’t get suitors, it seems like he has earned himself a spot for the time being.

Special Teams (3)

IN: Julian Ashby (LS), Bryce Baringer (P), Parker Romo (K)

Rookie kicker Andy Borregales and veteran Parker Romo have been battling it out all summer, but Borregales’ missed kicks in back-to-back preseason games have given Romo the edge.
