INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Fever have signed nine-year WNBA veteran Aerial Powers to a seven-day contract for some much-needed depth at wing.

The Fever were down to one wing on Friday, as Sophie Cunningham suffered a season-ending MCL tear on Sunday and Chloe Bibby was ruled out pregame with a left knee injury as a precaution after she “felt something” pregame.

Lexie Hull stepped up, playing 38 minutes and scoring a career-high 23 points in the 95-90 loss to Minnesota, but those kinds of minutes aren’t sustainable over multiple games.

Powers signed on to give the Fever depth at the 3 position. Powers, the No. 5 pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft, averaged 10.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists over the course of her WNBA career. She won a championship with the Washington Mystics in 2019 and spent time with Dallas, Minnesota and Atlanta.

She most recently played for Golden State, appearing in two games while the Valkyries were missing multiple players due to overseas commitments.

Powers will be available Sunday as the team heads to Minnesota, wearing No. 23 for the Fever.

The Fever, who have had a host of bad luck on the injury front, were approved for a third hardship waiver in order to sign Powers to a seven-day contract. Indiana has three players out for the season, including Cunningham, Sydney Colson (left ACL) and Aari McDonald (right foot). Star guard Caitlin Clark has also been out for an extended amount of time, missing over a month so far with a right groin injury.

Indiana has three players signed on hardship waivers , with Powers joining Odyssey Sims and Shey Peddy. Sims’ status, too, is up in the air after she suffered an injury during Friday night’s game against Minnesota. She seemed to tweak something while going up for a layup in the fourth quarter, then called for a sub and limped off the court and straight back to the locker room.

Coach Stephanie White didn’t have a status update on Sims postgame, saying she would get evaluated on Saturday. Bibby will also be evaluated Saturday after her late scratch from the game.
