Back on August 2, the Aces lost an embarrassing game to the Minnesota Lynx by a score of 111-58, dropping their record to a mediocre 14-14. All they’ve done since then is run over the league, winning 10 in a row, vaulting them into the No. 3 spot in the WNBA. Their last win came on Saturday on the road against the Washington Mystics, a 91-81 victory that saw A’ja Wilson score 36 points with 13 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
The Sky have struggled mightily, due in large part to injuries. They dropped their last game at home, 94-84 to the Connecticut Sun. Chicago shot well from the field (49.2%) and from the 3-point line (47.4%) but missed 11 free throws and turned the ball over 17 times en route to the loss. Kia Nurse led the team in scoring off the bench with 19 points, making 5-of-9 3-pointers. Angel Reese scored 11 with 11 rebounds and five assists, with Kamilla Cardoso scoring 18 of her own.
In a schedule quirk, this is the first of three meetings between the Aces and Sky, all taking place within 15 days.
