Insight has emerged regarding the mindset of John Cena in his heated promo aimed at Logan Paul on WWE SmackDown.
With Cena and Paul set for a match at WWE Clash In Paris on August 31, they came face-to-face in the ring on SmackDown this past Friday.
Cena in particular had some heated comments for Paul, including:
“We opened our arms to you, and instead of respecting this house, what the hell do you do? You use us as some branding opportunity to buy another Pokémon card.”
“In 2010, I fought Sheamus here (in Dublin) with no cameras. You were making Vine videos with your brother.”
“You have sucked opportunity away, in my final moments, of deserving superstars like Dominik Mysterio, AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, The Usos, Jacob Fatu. They want to see those legendary matches and they think I am wasting my time with you.”
“As far as a cohabitation agreement, I read the news homie – you’ve got plenty of legal trouble.”

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, former WWE star Baron Corbin – now going by the name Bishop Dyer – commented on Cena’s promo and gave some insight into Cena’s mindset when it comes to promos in general with potential new top stars, comparing it to what he’s done in the past with the likes of Roman Reigns in 2017 and Austin Theory in 2023.
He said:
“John will have no mercy on the microphone. He talks about wanting to give back to the business, and he does. He truly loves this and wants people to be successful.
“But he’s not gonna hand it to you. We watched him murder Roman on live television, from the drug test pop to the lack of promo skills – he cut Roman’s seeds off in that promo.
“He’s going, ‘If you can come back from that and prove me wrong, I will help you to take the keys to the kingdom.’
“Maybe John didn’t tell (Logan) anything. In my brain John didn’t tell him anything – ‘When you’re done, I’ll start talking and then I’ll put the button on it and we’re out.’ He wants Logan’s real reactions in the moment.
“But it was a test too man. It was a test to see if he could hang. It was a test to see what Logan was gonna bring to the table promo-wise.
“He did it to Theory. If you’re not gonna bring original content and your A-game, he’s gonna murder you.”
