A former Stanley Cup champion and first-round pick could be a potential target for Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks on the free agent market this summer.

Less than 48 hours ago, the Vancouver Canucks made the decision to trade Dakota Joshua to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2028 NHL Entry Draft.

Now that the Vancouver Canucks have a little less than $4 million to work with, Patrik Allvin and the team’s management group are evaluating their options and see who they could target, whether it be a free agent or through a trade.

In an article on Canucks Army recently, Stephan Roget shared some players that the team could target through the free agent market, if they wish, before training camp in September.

There are a few intriguing names on Roget’s list including centerman Robby Fabbri, who was a first round pick of the Blues back in 2014 and went on to win a Stanley Cup with them in 2019.

Fabbri is coming off a difficult year in his first season with the Anaheim Ducks, who acquired him in a trade with the Detroit Red Wings back in July of 2024 in exchange for goaltending prospect Gage Alexander.

The Mississauga, Ontario native isn’t going to come in and play a second line role for the Vancouver Canucks, that’s for certain, but he would help the team with their lack of depth down the middle and be plugged in at 4C by Head Coach Adam Foote.

“Fabbri could no longer be considered anything close to a top-six solution. Nor is he typically viewed as ideal for deployment in the bottom-six. But if a team were looking for affordable offence – something in the mold of Daniel Sprong last year – they could certainly do worse than taking a flyer on Fabbri, who will make a quarter of his previous salary if he’s lucky.” Roget said.

In 44 games with the Ducks, the 29-year-old registered 16 points (eight goals, eight assists), 20 penalty minutes and was a minus-six.

With Thomas Drance of The Athletic reporting earlier this week that the Vancouver Canucks aren’t done adding to their roster this summer, it’s going to be interesting to see what Patrik Allvin has up his sleeve and if it perhaps could be a free agent signing of someone like Jack Roslovic, Victor Olofsson or even Robby Fabbri.
