\n\tChris Columbus<\/a> has more to say<\/a> about HBO\u2019s Harry Potter<\/a> remake.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe director \u2014 who helmed the first two Warner Bros. films that launched the hit cinematic franchise \u2014 recently made headlines for saying he wanted nothing to do with HBO\u2019s multi-season remake of J.K. Rowling<\/a>\u2018s novels.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut on a new podcast, Columbus made more pointed remarks about the project, reacting to photos making the rounds of Hagrid (Nick Frost) <\/a>leading around a young Harry (Dominic McLaughlin) around London.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI looked online and there are photographs of Nick Frost as Hagrid with the new Harry Potter,\u201d Columbus told the The Rest is Entertainment podcast<\/a>. \u201cAnd he\u2019s wearing the exact same costume that we designed for Hagrid. Part of me was like: \u2018What\u2019s the point?\u2019 I thought everything [on the HBO show] the costumes and everything was going to be different. It\u2019s more of the same.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tColumbus continued: \u201cIt\u2019s very flattering for me, because I\u2019m like: That\u2019s exactly the Hagrid costume that we designed. So part of it is really exciting. I\u2019m excited to see what they\u2019re going to do with it. Part of it is sort of d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu all over again.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tColumbus added that he wasn\u2019t \u201cjealous\u201d about the remake. \u201cI\u2019m so beyond it,\u201d he said. \u201cI did it. I\u2019ve done that, it\u2019s time to move on. I\u2019ve always had issues with the idea of franchise. When we did Gremlins and Goonies \u2014 that\u2019s why I didn\u2019t do the second Gremlins film. My attitude then is I\u2019ve done it and it\u2019s time to move on. Same with Potter. I feel like I\u2019ve done it \u2026 I\u2019m really proud of those films \u2014 the first three that I was involved with, and I\u2019m moving on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tColumbus also discussed how he shot films with Peeves the Poltergeist (Rik Mayall) for the first film, 2001\u2019s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer\u2019s Stone, which were cut from the release. \u201cWe filmed the Peeves scenes, but it was a CGI character and we could never get it right. We could never design the scene the character to any of our liking, so they were cut from the film. That\u2019s the thing I\u2019m probably most excited about in the HBO series, I want to see how they do Peeves. But Rik Mayall\u2019s performance was fantastic.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe director also recently addressed the controversy of J.K. Rowling\u2019s trans views, telling Variety<\/a>: \u201cI like to sometimes separate the artist from the art, I think that\u2019s important to do. It\u2019s unfortunate, what\u2019s happened. I certainly don\u2019t agree with what she\u2019s talking about. But it\u2019s just sad, it\u2019s very sad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHBO\u2019s Harry Potter is coming in 2027 and pledges a \u201cfaithful\u201d re-imagining of Rowling\u2019s seven novels as separate seasons of television. Producers have previously noted the new version will be able to include far more material from Rowling\u2019s novels than was able to be explored in the films. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe series will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved\u00a0Harry Potter\u00a0book series by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling and will feature an exciting and talented cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters\u00a0Harry Potter\u00a0fans have adored for over 25 years,\u201d HBO said in a statement when announcing the project. \u201cThe original, classic and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch around the world.\u201d <\/p>\n
