JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013\u00a0North Florida men’s tennis head coach John Collins<\/a> announced the addition of assistant coach Javier Matos<\/a> to finalize the staff.<\/p>\n “I’m really excited to work with Javier [Matos] again,” Collins said. “He developed as a leader during his playing career and is already a great young coach. He’s going to do a great job sharing his experiences with our student-athletes and helping us compete for an ASUN Championship title.”<\/p>\n Matos comes to North Florida after spending the 2024-25 season as an assistant men’s tennis coach at East Tennessee State. He helped the Bucs secure a share of the 2025 SoCon Regular Season title and helped guide five different ETSU players to All-SoCon recognition.<\/p>\n Matos spent his collegiate career at Presbyterian College, where he played under Collins for four seasons from 2021-24. He received All-Big South honors all four years. Matos was a standout on the court as he was the 23rd player in conference history to be a three-time All-Big South Doubles selection and the 15th player in league history to be a four-time All-Big South singles player. He helped Presbyterian capture both the Big South Regular Season and Tournament titles in 2023.<\/p>\n “I’m excited to be here at North Florida,” Matos added. “It’s such a winning program in the ASUN. I’m happy to have this experience with the players, and I know they’re really talented. I also worked with Coach Collins when I was at Presbyterian. He’s a great guy and has been a very successful collegiate coach. I’m going to try and provide as much I can with my experience at East Tennessee, and I’m excited to be here.”<\/p>\n Matos reached an ITF Ranking of 297 in high school and a UTR Rating of 11.84. He won an ITF singles tournament in Venezuela and captured two ITF doubles tournament victories in Venezuela and The Dominican Republic. Matos was also ranked No. 2 in Venezuela and won the 2020 Aguila Negra Open. He was even chosen to join the South American COSAT 12 and 16 national teams.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
