A summer reading challenge has been a success after more than 100 children signed up to it, organisers have said.<\/p>\n
Buckfastleigh Library, in Devon, said the Book Quest challenge required children to complete three tasks – read as often as possible for at least 10 minutes, visit a library, and take part in a sea-themed activity.<\/p>\n
Librarian Megan Cooper said: “We are creating a space that they feel comfortable and happy in, and they can have a little look and find what really inspires them.”<\/p>\n
Elodie and Rowan, both aged nine, said they loved reading and the event had allowed them to read “lots of different books about lots of different things”.<\/p>\n
Ms Cooper said: “It’s been proven children who choose their own books are much more likely to enjoy reading.”<\/p>\n
The library has also been running events alongside the reading challenge, such as craft workshops and talks by Devon Wildlife Trust.<\/p>\n
Ms Cooper said: “You can read in the car, to your dog or to you family.
