{"id":102938,"date":"2025-08-28T09:35:06","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T09:35:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/102938\/"},"modified":"2025-08-28T09:35:06","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T09:35:06","slug":"quite-the-show-video-shows-orcas-getting-up-close-with-b-c-boaters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/102938\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Quite the show&#8217;: Video shows orcas getting up close with B.C. boaters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A B.C. resident says he got the show of a lifetime when a pod of orcas got up close with him and a group of friends on the waters of Howe Sound, just north of Vancouver, in an encounter captured on video.<\/p>\n<p>Joshua Lepin says he and his friends were in boats and inflatables on Saturday afternoon and had been floating off Gambier Island for a couple of hours, when the pod of six or seven orcas swam directly toward them.<\/p>\n<p>He says swimmers got out of the water as the whales &#8220;put on quite a show.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The videos captured by Lepin show the orcas slapping their fins and tails on the water, while juveniles in the group can be seen porpoising out of the water.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"A group of orca are seen in the water.\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/orca-gambier-island.jpg\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.5967523680649527\" data-cy=\"image-img\"\/>Joshua Lepin captured a video of orcas near Gambier Island in B.C.&#8217;s Howe Sound.
