The O Siem Inuk singer-songwriter born in Manitoba and raised in Nunavut, and who toured Canada earlier this year<\/a> for the 30th anniversary of her album This Child, is speaking at the Sarnia Library Theatre Sept. 8 about her book Kihiani: A Memoir of Healing.<\/p>\n Article content<\/p>\n Article content<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve had many Indigenous authors over the years, but I think she might be our first Inuk author,\u201d said Susan Chamberlain, with event host The Book Keeper, an independent book store in Sarnia.<\/p>\n Aglukark, an advocate for Indigenous youth and founder of the Arctic Rose Foundation, is expected to speak, answer questions and sign copies at the 7 p.m., $10 ticketed event<\/a>, Chamberlain said.<\/p>\n Tickets are available from The Book Keeper, she said.<\/p>\n The memoir, which goes on sale Sept. 2, is Aglukark\u2019s first book, she said.<\/p>\n Advertisement 3<\/p>\n This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.<\/p>\n Article content<\/p>\n \u201cSo, this is definitely the first time we\u2019ve had any interaction with her,\u201d Chamberlain said.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to it,\u201d she said, calling the event an opportunity to hear another point of view and build empathy.<\/p>\n Hosting author talks and book signings has become normal practice for the 45-year-old book store, she said, noting events with authors Margaret Atwood, Mitch Albom and Chris Hadfield have been held during the years.<\/p>\n \u201cThe reputation of the store locally and in the book world has really grown,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Bestselling Canadian author Terry Fallis will be visiting Oct. 8, speaking starting at 7 p.m. at the Northgate Plaza store and signing books, she said.<\/p>\n Tickets are $35 and include a copy of Fallis\u2019 new book, The Marionette.<\/p>\n Advertisement 4<\/p>\n This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.<\/p>\n Article content<\/p>\n The \u201cfunny and smart\u201d writer has visited Sarnia once or twice before, Chamberlain said.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, we\u2019re happy to have him coming back.\u201d<\/p>\n There\u2019s space for about 100 people at in-store events, she said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe push all the furniture, all the book shelves to the edges . . .
