PHILADELPHIA — Phillies<\/a> slugger Kyle Schwarber<\/a> homered in four of his first five at-bats, pushing his season total to 49, in Philadelphia’s 19-4 win<\/a> over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night.<\/p>\n Schwarber is the fourth Phillies player to hit four homers in a game and the first since Mike Schmidt against the Chicago Cubs<\/a> in April 1976. Schwarber is the third player in the majors to hit four homers in a game this season, following Eugenio Su\u00e1rez<\/a> and Nick Kurtz<\/a>. It was the 21st four-homer game in major league history.<\/p>\n Schwarber began the day tied with the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani<\/a> for the National League lead. Seattle’s Cal Raleigh<\/a> tops the majors with 50.<\/p>\n Schwarber’s 49 homers passed Ryan Howard (2008) and Schmidt (1980) for the second most in a season in Phillies history, trailing only Ryan Howard’s 58 in 2006.<\/p>\n Schwarber had a franchise-record nine RBIs. He started the power surge with a solo shot in the first inning off Cal Quantrill<\/a>, sending a 2-1 curveball into the right-field seats. Schwarber hit a flyout to center in the second.<\/p>\n After Quantrill was lifted with one out and a pair of runners on base in the fourth, Schwarber greeted lefty Austin Cox<\/a> by sending a 3-2 curveball over the wall in right for his fourth multihomer game of the season.<\/p>\n With “M-V-P! M-V-P!” chants ringing down from Phillies fans in the fifth, Schwarber launched a three-run drive off Cox to left, giving him five RBIs and putting Philadelphia ahead 15-3.
