On an otherwise uneventful Friday, the Brooklyn Nets have waived forward Tosan Evbuomwan<\/a>, according to HoopsHype\u2019s longtime insider Michael Scotto.<\/p>\n

Nets Trim Roster With Tosan Evbuomwan Cut<\/p>\n

A two-year pro who went undrafted out of Princeton, Evbuomwan averaged career-highs of 9.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists and 0.9 steals in 23.8 minutes per game in 2024-25. Given his production last season, general versatility and relative youth<\/a> at 24 years old, this is a decision that could raise some eyebrows. Him being on a two-way contract only leads to more questions because it\u2019s unlikely to be a move that was financially motivated.<\/p>\n

In the same breath, Evbuomwan had the same issue many of his teammates had last season. Though his production was more voluminous than the previous season, he has clear limitations as a shot-creator and shot-maker. Keeping that in mind, he shot 42.7 percent from the field and 31.2 percent from 3 in 2024-25.<\/p>\n

This was a steep drop-off from his rookie season, when he converted 50.7 percent of his field goals and 37.5 percent of his 3s. So, perhaps Obvuomwan\u2019s first year was a flash in the pan. Beginner\u2019s luck, as they would say.<\/p>\n

Brooklyn just had to believe they\u2019d be replacing him with a better player.<\/p>\n

The Last Word<\/p>\n

By releasing Ovbuomwan, the Nets have opened up a two-way roster slot. Well, a second one. This may seem inconsequential, but there are still a few interesting young players on the market with the offseason winding down. NBL veteran Jack McVeigh<\/a>, G League Ignite alum MarJon Beauchamp<\/a> and three-time Slam Dunk champion Mac McMclung<\/a> are just a few of the players that come to mind.<\/p>\n
