{"id":106357,"date":"2025-08-29T22:01:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-29T22:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/106357\/"},"modified":"2025-08-29T22:01:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T22:01:09","slug":"carlos-alcaraz-reveals-why-he-called-the-physio-on-court-during-his-third-round-win-at-the-us-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/106357\/","title":{"rendered":"Carlos Alcaraz reveals why he called the physio on court during his third-round win at the US Open"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Carlos Alcaraz extended his winning streak with an impressive performance in round three.<\/p>\n<p>The Spanish star made light work of his first two opponents in New York, defeating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/reilly-opelka\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reilly Opelka<\/a> and Mattia Bellucci in straight sets.<\/p>\n<p>In doing so, he advanced to round three of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a>, where he met Italy\u2019s Luciano Darderi, the 32nd seed.<\/p>\n<p>Easing past the 23-year-old, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alcaraz<\/a> won 6-2, 6-4, 6-0, booking his place in the last 16.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2232727830-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Luciano Darderi and Carlos Alcaraz shake hands at the net after their match at the 2025 US Open\" class=\"wp-image-125528\" \/>Photo by Matthew Stockman\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>There were, however, worrying signs for the world number two during the second set, when he called the physio on court.<\/p>\n<p>After the match, Alcaraz explained why he asked for help and updated fans on his fitness levels.<\/p>\n<p>Carlos Alcaraz asked the physio to \u2018take care of his knee\u2019 but insists he\u2019s not worried<\/p>\n<p>Mary Joe Fernandez questioned the Spaniard about his decision to call the physio during the post-match interview, to which Alcaraz provided the following response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, I\u2019m feeling good,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just asked for the physio when he broke my serve, in the last point, I felt something that was not working well in the knee, but after five, six points it was gone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just asked for the physio just to take care of the knee because there was one set left, so I had to be ready to be good, feeling good physically.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to talk to my team, but I\u2019m not worried about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz seemed to have more trouble with the schedule, having to play his match at 11.30 in the early session.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"615\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2231948544-1024x615.jpg\" alt=\"Carlos Alcaraz watches a ball fly past him at the 2025 US Open\" class=\"wp-image-125525\" \/>Photo by TIMOTHY A. CLARY\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just tried to start awake, starting at 11.30 is a schedule that I\u2019m not used to playing, so my first goal was to start well, start focused, to start with energy, with a good rhythm,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I started pretty well, just pushing him to the limit, trying to play long rallies, trying to get a good rhythm with the serve, with the return, I think I did pretty well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter that, just keep it going.
