\n\tDeftones<\/a> make a record-breaking rise to No. 1 on Billboard\u2019s Mainstream Rock Airplay<\/a> chart with \u201cMy Mind Is a Mountain,\u201d the band\u2019s first No. 1 on the list.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe song, which lifts 3-1 on the Sept. 6-dated tally, is also Deftones\u2019 first leader on any Billboard airplay chart. It surpasses three No. 3 peaks: \u201cChange [In the House of Flies]\u201d on Alternative Airplay in 2000 and \u201cTempest\u201d (2013) and \u201cOhms\u201d (2020) on Mainstream Rock Airplay.<\/p>\n

\n\tDeftones first reached Mainstream Rock Airplay in May 1998, via \u201cBe Quiet and Drive (Far Away),\u201d which peaked at No. 29. As such, the band\u2019s 27-year, three-month, one-week wait between a first chart entry and first No. 1 is the lengthiest in two categories over the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart\u2019s 44-year history: longest wait for a group\u2019s first leader and the longest by any act in a lead role with a first No. 1.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn July, Evanescence<\/a> rewrote<\/a> the record for the longest wait by a group, at more than 22 years between \u201cBring Me to Life\u201d and \u201cAfterlife.\u201d Not only does that record fall, Deftones wrap the longest wait for any act in a lead role thanks to \u201cMy Mind Is a Mountain,\u201d exceeding the more than 26 years for Ozzy Osbourne<\/a> between \u201cCrazy Train\u201d in 1981 and No. 1 \u201cI Don\u2019t Wanna Stop\u201d in 2007.<\/p>\n

\n\tOverall, Jeff Beck <\/a>went a record 37-plus years between his debut, \u201cPeople Get Ready,\u201d in 1985 and his first No. 1, as featured on Osbourne\u2019s \u201cPatient Number 9\u201d in 2022.<\/p>\n

\n\tLongest Waits for First No. 1, Mainstream Rock Airplay:<\/p>\n

37 years, one month, two weeks: Jeff Beck, as featured on Ozzy Osbourne\u2019s \u201cPatient Number 9\u201d (1985-2022)<\/p>\n

27 years, three months, one week: Deftones, \u201cMy Mind Is a Mountain\u201d (1998-2025)<\/p>\n

26 years, three months, Brian May, as featured on Five Finger Death Punch\u2019s \u201cBlue On Black\u201d (1993-2019)<\/p>\n

26 years, two months, two weeks: Ozzy Osbourne, \u201cI Don\u2019t Wanna Stop\u201d (1981-2007)<\/p>\n

22 years, three months, three weeks: Evanescence, \u201cAfterlife\u201d (2003-25)<\/p>\n

\n\tWorth noting: Deftones\u2019 feat comes a week after Yellowcard<\/a> rewrote<\/a> the all-time record for the same accomplishment on Alternative Airplay.<\/p>\n

\n\tDeftones\u2019 Mainstream Rock Airplay history includes 17 entries between 1998 and 2025, with nine top 10s, starting with \u201cChange\u201d (No. 9, 2000).<\/p>\n

\n\tConcurrently, \u201cMy Mind Is a Mountain\u201d bullets at No. 25 on Alternative Airplay<\/a>, one spot below its best so far. That\u2019s the highest the band has been since \u201cTempest\u201d reached No. 20 in 2013. On the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay<\/a> chart, \u201cMy Mind Is a Mountain\u201d jumps 13-7 with 3.1 million audience impressions in the week ending Aug. 28, up 18%, according to Luminate. It\u2019s the band\u2019s first top 10 (exceeding \u201cTempest,\u201d which hit No. 13).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMy Mind Is a Mountain\u201d appeared at No. 5 on the most recently published multimetric Hot Hard Rock Songs<\/a> chart, after debuting atop the July 26 list. In addition to its radio airplay, the song earned 1.3 million official U.S. streams Aug. 15-21.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe song is the lead single from Private Music, Deftones\u2019 10th studio album. It was released Aug. 22, with its first-week impact to be reflected on the Sept. 6-dated album and song charts.<\/p>\n
