{"id":106426,"date":"2025-08-29T22:42:16","date_gmt":"2025-08-29T22:42:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/106426\/"},"modified":"2025-08-29T22:42:16","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T22:42:16","slug":"as-canadians-travel-more-at-home-heres-where-many-are-visiting-national","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/106426\/","title":{"rendered":"As Canadians travel more at home, here\u2019s where many are visiting &#8211; National"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As Canadians <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11329629\/canada-return-trips-us-travel-ongoing-decline\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">increasingly choose to skip travel to the United States<\/a> amid the trade war and spend money at home, new data from AirBnB and travel experts is offering a glimpse of which domestic locations may be seeing the biggest bump in bookings from that shift in travel habits.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1756110368_560_70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>During the first half of 2025, there was a 10 per cent increase in Canadians booking within the country compared to the same period a year prior, according to the company.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after <a href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/n1\/daily-quotidien\/250825\/dq250825b-eng.htm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Statistics Canada reported<\/a> on Aug. 25 that during the first quarter of 2025 (January through March), Canadian residents took 77.4 million trips within Canada and abroad, which is up 1.3 per cent from the same quarter in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Statistics Canada had also reported<a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11329629\/canada-return-trips-us-travel-ongoing-decline\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> that the number of Canadians travelling to the U.S. dropped for the seventh straight month.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>While that data recorded the decline in border crossings, it hadn\u2019t offered insight into where Canadians who choose to travel at home are going.<\/p>\n<p>According to the data from AirBnB, bookings in Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Saskatchewan all saw growth of more than 20 per cent in the first half of 2025 compared to the first half of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1756402221_230_national.jpg\" alt=\"For news impacting Canada and around the world, sign up for breaking news alerts delivered directly to you when they happen.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet breaking National news<\/p>\n<p>For news impacting Canada and around the world, sign up for breaking news alerts delivered directly to you when they happen.<\/p>\n<p>AirBnB noted\u00a0it isn\u2019t just major urban hubs that are driving the demand for travel \u2014 it\u2019s also smaller towns and rural communities.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the specific trending destinations within Canada that stood out included West Kelowna, B.C.; Blue Mountain, Ont.; Regina, Sask.; Gatineau, Que.; and Canmore, Alta.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-video__image\" alt=\"Click to play video: 'B.C. tourism industry on summer travel season'\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2025_08_06_SUMMER_TOURISM.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   data-\/><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t4:20<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tB.C. tourism industry on summer travel season\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The company says Canadians trending to prefer more domestic and non-U.S. destinations abroad represents a \u201cseismic shift\u201d that may only just be getting started.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\tTrending Now\n\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11350934\/lng-canada-europe-germany-outlook\/\" class=\"c-posts__inner\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-posts__thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1756507336_485_083c2957ae7d113b1e4df68d6a445b21fc9384a80b8da94e127d898176e2125c.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"336\" height=\"224\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\tCanada wants to sell LNG to Germany. So our top three \u2014 think Banff, Halifax, and Victoria are the top right now.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to travelling abroad, more and more <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11329629\/canada-return-trips-us-travel-ongoing-decline\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canadians continue to look away from the United States as a destination<\/a>, with the ongoing trade war and tariffs souring the sentiments of many.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11331726\/canada-strong-pass-boost-attendance\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canada Strong Pass<\/a> launched in July was promoted as an incentive for Canadians to explore more that Canada has to offer by granting free admission and reduced camping fees at national parks, as well as discounted or reduced admission for younger Canadians to some galleries, museums, as well as tickets for Via Rail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTypically, Canadian visitors make up 50 per cent of our summer guests in Banff and Jasper.
