In 2024, 70.9% of people in the EU<\/a> used internet-connected devices, otherwise known as \u2018smart\u2019 devices, or the Internet of Things (IoT)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The highest share of users of internet-connected devices in the EU was recorded in the Netherlands (94.8%), followed by Ireland (90.6%) and Denmark (87.0%).<\/p>\n

By contrast, the lowest shares were recorded in Poland (46.1%), Bulgaria (50.8%) and Romania (56.6%).<\/p>\n

Among the various types of internet-connected devices, internet-connected TVs were by far the most used IoT devices in 2024, reported by 57.9% of individuals. This was followed by smart wearables, such as smartwatches and fitness trackers (29.9%).\u00a0<\/p>\n

One-fifth of people reported using games consoles (19.5%) and internet-connected home audio systems (19.3%). Additionally, 16.0% of people reported using a virtual assistant in the form of a smart speaker.<\/p>\n

Home automation devices (also referred to as \u2018domotics\u2019) were less commonly used. In 2024, 14.2% of people used an internet-connected home energy management system, 12.8% used smart home appliances, and 11.8% used smart home security devices.<\/p>\n
