Featuring a screenplay by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/tag\/Chris-Columbus\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Columbus<\/a> and a story by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/tag\/steven-spielberg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Steven Spielberg<\/a>, the movie stars Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Ke Huy Quan, and Martha Plimpton.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s been talk about making a sequel to The Goonies for many years; however, it wasn\u2019t until February 2025 that it was officially announced that The Goonies 2 was happening at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/tag\/warner-bros-pictures\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Warner Bros.\u00a0Pictures<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What is The Goonies 2 update?<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at an event at the Venice Film Festival, via <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/08\/goonies-sequel-moving-right-direction-writer-gives-update-1236501533\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Deadline<\/a>, Ponciroli gave a positive update regarding The Goonies 2\u2019s script.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have turned in a first draft, which was very well received, and I\u2019m on a second draft,\u201d Ponciroli said. \u201cI\u2019m about 95% done with that, so we\u2019re moving in the right direction\u2026I know there\u2019s a lot of \u2018do we need a new\u00a0Goonies,\u2019 but I\u2019m the biggest fan of the original, it\u2019s my favorite movie of all time. I\u2019d never \u2018redo\u2019\u00a0The Goonies. To me, it was a story that never ended, so this is the movie I want to see as one of its biggest fans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No director is yet attached to The Goonies 2, and no plot details have been revealed. It\u2019s currently unclear which cast members from the first movie will return for the sequel. Spielberg and Columbus are both returning to produce the new Goonies alongside Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Holly Bario, while Lauren Shuler Donner serves as an executive producer.<\/p>\n<p>A release date for The Goonies 2 has not yet been set.<\/p>\n<p>The original Goonies, meanwhile, is currently available to purchase or rent on various digital outlets such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Goonies 2 has received a positive update from writer Potsy Ponciroli.
