Terence Crawford\u2019s trainer, Brian \u2018BoMac\u2019 McIntyre, says it doesn\u2019t \u201cmean s***\u201d that undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez is using former unified welterweight champion Jaron \u2018Boots\u2019 Ennis as his aparring partner to prepare for his defense against Crawford on September 13th.<\/p>\n

Ennis Is No Crawford<\/p>\n

\u2018BoMac\u2019 points out that Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) \u201cain\u2019t no Crawford.\u201d He adds that Canelo should have just gotten \u201cthe last cab driver he just fought.\u201d Fans believe that Canelo (63-2-2, 39 KOs) chose Ennis because he\u2019s versatile, powerful, can switch hit, and is young. At 28, Ennis is nine years younger than the 37-year-old Crawford.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat don\u2019t mean s***. That don\u2019t mean nothing. \u2018Boots\u2019 ain\u2019t no Crawford,\u201d said trainer Brian \u2018BoMac\u2019 McIntyre to Ring Magazine<\/a>, when asked about his thoughts on Canelo Alvarez using Jaron \u2018Boots\u2019 Ennis as his sparring partner to prepare for Terence Crawford.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear whether \u2018BoMac\u2019 isn\u2019t concerned with Canelo using Jaron \u2018Boots\u2019 Ennis for preparation for Crawford or not. Ennis\u2019s ability to switch stances the way Crawford does has to be something that McIntyre would have cause to worry about.<\/p>\n

If that\u2019s the strategy that Crawford will use against Canelo, it could be less effective if Canelo has had an entire camp of working with the young 28-year-old \u2018Boots\u2019 to prepare for it.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Cab Driver\u2019 Comment<\/p>\n

\u201cThat s*** ain\u2019t going to help him,\u201d said BoMac about Canelo not being helped by using the former IBF and WBA welterweight champion Ennis as his sparring partner. \u201cHe should have just got the last cab driver he just fought because that s*** don\u2019t mean nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ennis isn\u2019t the only sparring partner in Canelo\u2019s camp. He\u2019s hired #the 1-ranked WBA middleweight contender Yoenli Hernandez to help. Hernandez (8-0, 7 KOs) is a talented fighter from Cuba with punching power and size to give Canelo work to prepare him for a potential brawl with Crawford.<\/p>\n

Youth and Ambidexterity<\/p>\n

According to trainer Andre Rozier, Hernandez is ambidextrous and can fight out of both lefty and righty stances.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has to take him to another level,\u201d said Rozier to YSM Sports Media<\/a> when asked if Canelo\u2019s use of Ennis will help him prepare for Crawford. \u201cHe [Ennis] brings some youth and athleticism that he hasn\u2019t seen. He was very focused, aware, listening, and he was trying new things at all times, which is pretty cool,\u201d said Rozier about his work with Ennis in his recent training camp for his fight against WBA welterweight champion Eimantas Stanionis on April 12, 2025.<\/p>\n

BoMac\u2019s Thoughts on Alvarez<\/p>\n

\u201cHe ain\u2019t no Bud Crawford. They don\u2019t have that mentality and going upside your head at the same time s***, man. I don\u2019t give a f*** about that s*** at all,\u201d said BoMac about \u2018Boots\u2019 helping Alvarez.<\/p>\n

Ennis is going to do the best he can with Canelo to prepare him for the 37-year-old Crawford, and he has the youth to help him. As Rozier mentioned, Ennis is \u201ctrying new things at all times.\u201d<\/p>\n
