Conservation officer service asking nearby residents and recreationists to be vigilant<\/p>\n
Residents in the qathet region are advised that a young grizzly bear has been spotted between Lang Creek and Lang Bay Road as of August 28.<\/p>\n
According to conservation officer Leyland Klassen, this bear has been in the area for the last week.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis grizzly bear has not caused any conflict or acted aggressively and is foraging for natural foods,\u201d stated Klassen in an email. \u201cThe BC Conservation Officer Service [BCCOS] is asking nearby residents and persons who recreate in the area to be vigilant.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat can the public do to stay safe? Proper animal husbandry \u2013 the control and management of domestic animals, as well as managing attractants, are key. The public should also be bear smart while out recreating and can reference the WildSafeBC website<\/a> for more information. This is necessary to keep the public safe, reduce conflict and keep the bear safe.\u201d<\/p>\n BCCOS advises the public to report sightings of the grizzly bear to the RAPP line at 1.877.952.7277, or online at\u00a0 forms.gov.bc.ca\/environment\/rapp<\/a>.<\/p>\n
