HOUSTON, Texas \u2013\u00a0The ULM soccer team (3-2) hits the road to take on Big 12 opponent Houston (2-0-1) on Sunday (Aug. 31) at 2 p.m. The Warhawks look to find their first Power Five win and find success in another road test.<\/p>\n
SCOUTING THE COUGARS \u2013<\/p>\n
Houston currently sits with a 2-0-1 record, most recently taking down Texas at home, 4-1. The Cougars scored four goals in the second half to overtake the Longhorns. Houston has also claimed a win over St. Mary’s (TX) and a tie at UTSA. The Cougars open 2025 with a new head coach in Ben Williams, who previously coached at Stephen F. Austin. The team welcomes 15 newcomers in 2025 as well, including 11 transfers.\u00a0<\/p>\n
SPREADING THE WEALTH \u2013<\/p>\n
Seven different Warhawks have scored each of the 10 goals this season and 12 have earned points. In the Aug. 14 season opener vs. Southeastern Louisiana, four different ULM players scored a goal. In the Aug. 27 match against Little Rock, four Warhawks claimed points from assists.\u00a0Skylar Blaise<\/a>\u00a0leads the pack with six points so far, posting three goals. Fellow captain\u00a0Beth Strutton<\/a>\u00a0follows closely behind with five points.\u00a0<\/p>\n FIRST-TIME MEETING \u2013\u00a0<\/p>\n This is the first-ever meeting between the Cougars and the Warhawks in soccer. ULM also faced UAB for the first time in program history this season.<\/p>\n ULM VS. THE POWER FIVE \u2013<\/p>\n ULM has never beat a Power Five opponent in program history, though they have taken on their fair share. The Warhawks have posted one tie vs. a Power Five opponent, vs. in-state foe LSU, going to double overtime in 2001. The last time the Warhawks took on a Power Five opponent was last season, when Oklahoma hosted ULM and beat the Warhawks, 1-3.\u00a0<\/p>\n LAST TIME OUT \u2013<\/p>\n MONROE, La. \u2013\u00a0The ULM women’s soccer team found a way to come from behind and win their second consecutive match against Little Rock on Wednesday night.\u00a0Vienna Tokam<\/a>\u00a0logged her first career goal and\u00a0Skylar Blaise<\/a>\u00a0notched the game winner, with four Warhawks earning assists.<\/p>\n The Trojans got off to an early start, with Maria Schuller breaking away from the pack and hitting the back of the net in the eighth minute. A corner kick by\u00a0Margret Edda Bjarnadottir<\/a>\u00a0set up a header from\u00a0Libby Holmes<\/a>, a goal coming off the foot of Tokam.\u00a0<\/p>\n A free kick by\u00a0Ally Richardson<\/a>\u00a0sent the ball to\u00a0Stacey Qosja<\/a>, who then passed it to Blaise for her third goal of the season and 14th of her career. While the Trojans fought to find the tying goal, the half ended with ULM ahead.\u00a0<\/p>\n Multiple shots from both teams kept the second half even. While the Trojans prevented extra goals from the Warhawks, they were unable to tie things up, as ULM clinched its second-straight win over Little Rock, 2-1.<\/p>\n NEW ON THE BAYOU\u2013<\/p>\n Coach\u00a0Will Roberts<\/a>\u00a0brought in 11 newcomers for the 2025 season, and it has paid off. 10 of the 11 newcomers have seen playing time. Four have already tallied their first points as Warhawks.\u00a0Vienna Tokam<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Maria Thania Gealon<\/a>\u00a0are two freshman to notch their first career goals.<\/p>\n CAREER FIRSTS \u2013<\/p>\n Many returning Warhawks have also posted their first career goals, starts or appearances.\u00a0Maddox Dolly<\/a>\u00a0made her ULM debut in goal and\u00a0Stacey Qosja<\/a>\u00a0logged her first career point against Little Rock (Aug. 27).\u00a0<\/p>\n O CAPTAINS OUR CAPTAINS \u2013<\/p>\n ULM Soccer has named three captains this season: forward\u00a0Skylar Blaise<\/a>, defender\u00a0Beth Strutton<\/a>\u00a0and defender\u00a0Libby Holmes<\/a>. Blaise, Strutton and Holmes are the top three leaders in points this season, with the captains collecting six, five and four points, respectively.<\/p>\n FOLLOW THE WARHAWKS \u2013<\/p>\n Sunday’s match will be available for streaming on ESPN+, with live stats also available.
