Metallica<\/a> recently paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne<\/a> at their most intimate concert in over a decade \u2013 check out footage below.<\/p>\n

On Thursday (August 28), the band played their smallest gig since 2013\u2019s \u2018Freeze Em All\u2019 concert in Antarctica<\/a>, performing in front of 500 fans at an invite-only gig in New York.<\/p>\n

The 14-song set took place in a tent outside the Stephen Talkhouse venue in Amagansett, marking the launch of the SiriusXM channel Maximum Metallica, with a host of big names \u2013 including Howard Stern, Sylvester Stallone<\/a> and Sir Paul McCartney<\/a> \u2013\u00a0in attendance.<\/p>\n

Their set leaned heavily on 1991\u2019s \u2018The Black Album\u2019, with the band performing \u2018Sad But True\u2019, \u2018Wherever I May Roam\u2019, \u2018Nothing Else Matters\u2019 and \u2018The Unforgiven\u2019. During their time-honoured \u201cdoodle\u201d segment,\u00a0guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo paid homage to Ozzy with a rendition of \u2018Crazy Train\u2019, drawing huge cheers from the small crowd.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Heavy metal pioneer Ozzy died last month<\/a>\u00a0at age 76, which came shortly after he\u00a0took to the stage for his final-ever live show at Black Sabbath\u2019s huge \u2018Back To The Beginning\u2019 event<\/a>\u00a0in Birmingham on July 5, where\u00a0Metallica<\/a>\u00a0played just before Ozzy performed.<\/p>\n

Drummer Lars Ulrich recently sat down with Stern ahead of Maximum Metallica\u2018s launch, and touched on the \u201cgenerational element of respect and love\u201d<\/a> he and his bandmates had for their metal predecessors, saying they defined the era \u201cthat helped shape, and ultimately dictate, what we became.\u201d<\/p>\n
