{"id":109179,"date":"2025-08-31T04:53:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-31T04:53:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/109179\/"},"modified":"2025-08-31T04:53:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-31T04:53:15","slug":"a-us-open-player-confronts-his-opponent-for-grunting-during-the-match","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/109179\/","title":{"rendered":"A US Open player confronts his opponent for grunting during the match"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 A <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/tennis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:U.S. Open;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">U.S. Open<\/a> player frustrated by the grunting of his opponent Saturday let him know about it during <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/townsend-ostapenko-us-open-tennis-handshakes-tsitsipas-caa68219845c9fa2cf5ac44103ebe9e2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:a tense conversation;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">a tense conversation<\/a> at the net after the match.<\/p>\n<p>Jaume Munar of Spain was not happy with the noise Zizou Bergs of Belgium was making during Munar&#8217;s 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 victory in the third round.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Bergs said Munar was talking \u201ca little bit of trash\u201d late in the match, so Bergs asked him why afterward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was apparently not so happy with my grunting during the match, which I didn&#8217;t know,&#8221; Bergs said. \u201cI said: \u2018It\u2019s nothing towards you at all.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Munar said Bergs&#8217; grunting bothered him two or three times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he did some wrong things, but he said it was not on purpose,&#8221; Munar explained. \u201cSo it&#8217;s not much more than that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At 4-all in the third set, Bergs was docked a point for ball abuse for hitting a ball into the stands.
