{"id":110606,"date":"2025-08-31T23:11:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-31T23:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/110606\/"},"modified":"2025-08-31T23:11:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-31T23:11:08","slug":"growing-pains-alum-jeremy-miller-says-co-stars-saved-him-from-homelessness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/110606\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Growing Pains&#8217; alum Jeremy Miller says co-stars saved him from homelessness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jeremy Miller is forever grateful for his TV family.<\/p>\n<p>During a recent interview with Scott Austalosh on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vSIMOqXaFdI&amp;t=1094s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">\u201cYoungstown Studios\u201d\u00a0<\/a>podcast, Miller, 48, recalled how his \u201cGrowing Pains\u201d co-stars Alan Thicke and Kirk Cameron saved him from ending up homeless after the 2008 financial crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy catering company went under, and I was really struggling,\u201d Miller remembered. \u201cI mean, really struggling, on the brink of homelessness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Miller on the \u201cYoungstown Studio\u201d podcast.<\/p>\n<p>The cast of \u201cGrowing Pains.\u201d \u00a9ABC\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThings got really bad, and\u00a0Alan and\u00a0Kirk\u00a0were the only two who stepped up to help me,\u201d the actor explained. \u201cAlan set up interviews with all of his restaurateur friends in Santa Barbara and a few other places, and got me connected to different places where I could utilize my chef skills and earn some money to help take care of my family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Miller, Kirk Cameron, Alan Thicke on \u201cGrowing Pains.\u201d Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>Miller added, \u201cAll it took was a phone call to say, \u2018Hey, Al, I\u2019m really struggling. Do you know anybody who might\u2026\u2019 and that\u2019s all I had to say. He was on the phone for the next two days, making connections and doing everything he could to try and help me. Thicke played Ben\u2019s dad, Dr. Jason Seaver, and Cameron played Ben\u2019s older brother, Mike. The cast also included Joanna Kerns, Tracey Gold and Ashley Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>Leonardo DiCaprio later joined the show as a homeless teen who is taken in by the Seaver family.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrowing Pains\u201d stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Kirk Cameron, Ashley Johnson, Jeremy Miller, Tracey Gold, Joanna Kerns and Alan Thicke. \u00a9ABC\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>Tracey Gold, Joanna Kerns, Alan Thicke, Jeremy Miller, Kirk Cameron on \u201cGrowing Pains.\u201d \u00a9ABC\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>After the ABC sitcom ended in 1992, Miller\u2019s career transitioned to mostly voice roles before he became a private chef.<\/p>\n<p>On the podcast, Miller called Thicke \u2014 who <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2016\/12\/21\/alan-thicke-died-from-ruptured-artery\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">died in 2016 at age 69 <\/a>\u2014 \u201cone of the most amazing men.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd he was always so full of life,\u201d Miller shared of his late co-star. \u201cThat was why losing him was such a shock. All of us, we really thought he was gonna be the next Dick Clark \u2014 102 and still going. He would call just to check up on me, make sure everything was good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe really did fill that father role,\u201d Miller said of Thicke. \u201cHe was my other dad. As close as I am to my real father, I was almost as close to Alan.
