\n\tChris Columbus<\/a>, who directed the first two\u00a0Harry Potter<\/a>\u00a0movies, said a reunion with the original cast is \u201cnever going to happen\u201d due to author J.K. Rowling<\/a>\u2018s anti-trans stances.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe filmmaker has previously expressed interest in a film adaptation of the Broadway play\u00a0Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with the cast of the beloved franchise, but has since scrapped his plans because it\u2019s gotten too \u201ccomplicated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s never going to happen,\u201d Columbus recently told The Times\u00a0U.K.<\/a> \u201cIt\u2019s gotten so complicated\u00a0with all the political stuff. Everyone in the cast has their own opinion, which is different from her opinion, which makes it impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Hollywood Reporter reached out to Rowling\u2019s reps for comment.<\/p>\n

\n\tRowling has been criticized in recent years<\/a> for her transphobia, as she\u2019s been outspoken on social media<\/a> against the trans rights movement. Earlier this year, she also celebrated the U.K. Supreme Court\u2019s landmark ruling\u00a0that trans women should not be recognized as women and that \u201csex\u201d should legally mean biological sex.<\/p>\n

\n\tColumbus, who helmed 2001\u2019s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer\u2019s Stone and 2002\u2019s Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, has previously publicly said he disagrees with the author\u2019s controversial views<\/a>. He added to The Times U.K., \u201cI haven\u2019t spoken to Miss Rowling in a decade or so, so I have no idea what\u2019s going on with her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for the original cast, which includes Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, the filmmaker said he\u2019s still quite close with them. \u201cI keep very close contact with Daniel Radcliffe and I just spoke to him a few days ago,\u201d he said. \u201cI still have a great relationship with all the kids in the cast.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRowling can\u2019t say the same, as the author previously stated she would not forgive those<\/a> who have supported trans healthcare, including Harry Potter stars Grint, Watson and Radcliffe.
