Saskatchewan Roughriders’ defensive back Tevaughn Campbell made a rare game-clinching,\u00a0pick-two interception in the Labour Day Classic.<\/p>\n
“Catch it,” Campbell said\u00a0about this thought process when he saw the ball in the air. “I think I stumbled a bit, but I got in the end zone. I was tired, out of breath, and I was excited.”<\/p>\n
Campbell had a feeling the ball could be coming his way based on the offensive play call by Winnipeg as\u00a0Zach Collaros floated a ball intended for Dalton Schoen.<\/p>\n
“We knew they were coming together in a stack, so we knew it was an in-and-out,” Campbell said. “My field half, [DaMarcus] Fields\u00a0and I were working together, so I knew I had to jump the out —\u00a0I knew it was coming —\u00a0and make the play.”<\/p>\n
Campbell\u2019s cohort, defensive lineman\u00a0Malik Carney was understandably elated for his teammate.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat’s a win,\u201d Carney said. “That was a great play by him, great read, great pick — good for him to take it back.\u201d<\/p>\n
Riders’ head coach Corey Mace detailed the relief\u00a0he felt\u00a0after how well the Bombers offence played to get Winnipeg back in the game.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey were doing such a good job offensively\u00a0trying to force us into some things,\u00a0moving the ball with RPOs and stuff like that,\u201d Mace said. \u201cI can’t remember who it was, maybe [Habakkuk] Baldonado got in his face a little bit and he had to put a little bit of air on\u00a0it. What a play by TC,\u00a0once he touches it, I don’t know who’s going to catch him.”<\/p>\n
Saskatchewan\u00a0defeated the\u00a0Blue Bombers 34-30 for the 60th Labour Day Classic. The six-foot, 195-pound defensive back finished the game with two defensive tackles and one interception.<\/p>\n
“We made it too close to begin with, but we don’t give up,” Campbell said. “There’s no quitting, we keep going to the last whistle, to the last second.\u00a0I\u00a0can’t thank the defence enough.”<\/p>\n
In 2025, the 32-year-old Campbell has started 10\u00a0games for the Riders,\u00a0accumulating\u00a018 defensive tackles, four interceptions, one\u00a0returned\u00a0for a touchdown, which ties him\u00a0for the most interceptions in the CFL.<\/p>\n
