The pair made contact at the Safety Car restart, both suffering punctures that forced them into the pits and left them a lap down.<\/p>\n

Stewards deemed Sainz \u201cwholly or predominantly to blame\u201d and handed him a 10-second penalty along with two licence points.<\/p>\n

Team radio captured Lawson\u2019s frustration at the gesture. After first reporting, \u201cI have a puncture, mate,\u201d he later added: \u201cYeah. Mate, the guy\u2019s giving me the thumbs up like it\u2019s my fault. It\u2019s my fucking corner.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Zandvoort clash was not their first flashpoint. At last year\u2019s Mexico City Grand Prix, Sainz accused Lawson of ignoring blue flags while he was leading for Ferrari, calling on stewards to penalise the then-rookie.<\/p>\n

Lawson escaped sanction, but tensions between the two resurfaced in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Liam, it always seems to be very difficult to make that happen,\u201d Sainz said after the race.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe always seems to prefer to have a bit of contact and risk a DNF or a puncture like we did, than to actually accept having two cars side by side.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sainz described the penalty as \u201ca complete joke\u201d and over the radio branded it \u201cthe most ridiculous thing I\u2019ve heard in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson pushed back, pointing to the stewards\u2019 decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it was my fault, I would have got a penalty,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s super slippery, cold tyres and it\u2019s fine to go for the move, but it\u2019s just risky.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the end, we made contact, which was not ideal, but that\u2019s why he got a penalty.\u201d<\/p>\n

The clash ruined Lawson\u2019s race<\/a>, dropping him to 12th, one spot ahead of Sainz.<\/p>\n

But while frustrated to miss out on points, he highlighted the significance of teammate Isack Hadjar\u2019s third place<\/a> \u2014 Racing Bulls\u2019 first podium since 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s massive, obviously we\u2019re pushing everybody here, and something like this could give that little bit of motivation to everybody to keep working hard,\u201d Lawson said.<\/p>\n
