The 90-metre-long twisted wall designed by Heatherwick Studio<\/a> as the centrepiece of the upcoming Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism<\/a> has been revealed in photos.<\/p>\n

Named the Humanise Wall, the giant structure is currently under construction in Songhyeon Green Plaza park in central Seoul<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Taken recently, the photos show the twisted wall, which is 90 metres long and four storeys high, nearing completion ahead of the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism<\/a>\u00a0later this month.<\/p>\n

The photos show the chunky, red steel structure twisting over a central opening, while a secondary black steel structure covers much of the wall.<\/p>\n

The wall was designed by Heatherwick Studio to provoke a conversation about the quality of architecture in Seoul.<\/p>\n

“[It] invites everyone to think about how the city makes you feel,” said Heatherwick Studio. “And how the outsides of buildings affect your brain, your body and your behaviour.”<\/p>\n

When complete, the structure will be covered in a combination of large-scale text, artworks and images of buildings.<\/p>\n

Along with several works commissioned by the biennale team, the display will include numerous examples of buildings from around the world that Heatherwick Studio believe demonstrate the ideals of its Humanise campaign.<\/p>\n

Some of the panels have already been installed, showing buildings including Bureau de Change’s The Interlock<\/a> and The Broad museum<\/a> by Diller Scofidio + Renfro<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alongside the giant wall structure, the photos also show the frames for 24 smaller wall sections, set to be built by 24 creatives.<\/p>\n

Among the participants chosen by the biennale team are architecture firms\u00a0Kengo Kuma and Associates<\/a>, MAD<\/a> and K\u00e9r\u00e9 Architecture<\/a>, as well as fashion designer Stella McCartney<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Heatherwick Studio founder Thomas Heatherwick is the general director of this year’s Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The themes set to be explored at the event, which begins on 26 September, build on the studio’s Humanise<\/a> campaign, which gives the twisted wall its name.<\/p>\n

Launched in 2023<\/a>, the campaign, along with an associated book and radio series, aims to “spark public conversation about the way buildings make us feel”.<\/p>\n
