{"id":117310,"date":"2025-09-03T18:04:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T18:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/117310\/"},"modified":"2025-09-03T18:04:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T18:04:11","slug":"lowry-and-mcilroy-among-early-starters-at-irish-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/117310\/","title":{"rendered":"Lowry and McIlroy among early starters at Irish Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Home hopes Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and P\u00e1draig Harrington will all be among a stacked morning wave as the Amgen Irish Open commences on Thursday morning at The K Club in County Kildare.<\/p>\n<p>The major winning trio will tee off in three consecutive groups off the 10th tee, starting with Harrington at 7.40am at the Straffan course.<\/p>\n<p>The Dubliner, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/sport\/golf\/2025\/0727\/1525596-harrington-shines-to-win-first-senior-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">who claimed his third senior major back in July<\/a>, gets the blockbuster run of groups underway, alongside Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas and Frenchman Adrien Saddier.<\/p>\n<p>That group will be followed by Lowry at 7.50am, alongside five-time major winner Brooks Koepla and Martin Couvra.<\/p>\n<p>It will be Koepka&#8217;s first start at the event, despite starting his professional career in Europe, with the American keen to shake off his disappointment on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/sport\/golf\/2025\/0827\/1530475-bradley-omits-himself-from-ryder-cup-captains-picks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">missing out on Ryder Cup selection<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As for Lowry, he will be looking to add to his 2009 conquest up at Baltray, and his impressive run of top-15 finishes in each of the last three editions of the event, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/sport\/golf\/2023\/0910\/1404454-irish-open-final-round-recap\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">including finishing third here at the K Club back in 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Then at 8am, Masters champion McIlroy will looks to repeat his success of 2016, starts his week alongside the in-form duo of Thriston Lawrence of South Africa and Kristoffer Reitan of Norway.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/sport\/golf\/2024\/0915\/1470165-irish-open-final-round-updates-mcilroy-leads\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">McIlroy came agonisingly close to victory up at Royal County Down last September<\/a>, being pipped at the death by his former Ryder Cup team-mate Rasmus Hogaard.
