At Fred Hutch, our doctors and researchers have been at the center of these changes. To help educate patients, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fredhutch.org\/en\/provider-directory\/natasha-b-hunter.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Natasha Hunter, MD<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fredhutch.org\/en\/provider-directory\/e-gabriela-chiorean.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gabriela Chiorean, MD<\/a> break down the different terms used in cancer diagnosis and treatment, how they personalize patient care and what new research is telling us about what\u2019s next on the horizon.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nMedia contact: Heather Platisha, <a href=\"mailto:hplatisha@fredhutch.org\">hplatisha@fredhutch.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cancer research<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fredhutch.org\/en\/news\/center-news\/2025\/08\/wei-sun-nih-morphic-crispr-uw.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Looking beyond suspect genes in cancer<\/a><br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n Fred Hutch is one of 10 institutions in the U.S., U.K. and Europe analyzing over 20,000 protein-coding genes to better understand their role in cancer. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-024-08243-w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Nature<\/a>, the 2022 Molecular Phenotypes of Null Alleles in Cells (<a href=\"https:\/\/morphic.bio\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">MorPhiC<\/a>) project will create a public catalog of the functions of all 20,319 genes by isolating each one to determine its impact on the cell. Learning Lab<\/a>.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nMedia contact: Shayla Ring, <a href=\"mailto:sring@fredhutch.org\">sring@fredhutch.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Awards and endowments<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fredhutch.org\/en\/news\/center-news\/2025\/08\/vinh-bui-tram-le-endowed-chair-macpherson.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">From dream to legacy: Couple accelerates lung cancer research<\/a><br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fredhutch.org\/en\/faculty-lab-directory\/macpherson-david.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David MacPherson, PhD<\/a>, is the inaugural recipient of the Vinh Bui and Tram Le Endowed Chair for Lung Cancer. MacPherson and <a href=\"https:\/\/research.fredhutch.org\/macpherson\/en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">his lab<\/a> are studying cancer biology\u00a0to develop targeted treatments for patients with the rare and highly aggressive small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Rubin\u2019s father, Milton Rubin, created the Milton B.
