FORT WILLIAM FIRST NATION\u00a0\u2014 Pepperoni pizza and buffalo wings were on the menu at a Fort William First Nation residence on Monday, but the meal ended up in the mouth of an uninvited guest.<\/p>\n
Ian Bannon’s 16-year-old granddaughter had placed an order for delivery of her food at 5pm, just in time for dinner.<\/p>\n
He was next door, helping a neighbour.<\/p>\n
When Bannon arrived back home\u00a0he found the teen standing on the back deck, appearing somewhat bewildered.<\/p>\n
“She looked dumbfounded. I got out and asked what had happened, and she says ‘The bear just took off with my supper.’ “<\/p>\n
He said the animal must have been close to the house when the delivery person arrived, rang the doorbell, and left the order\u00a0on the deck.<\/p>\n
When Bannon\u00a0checked the video from his doorbell camera, he saw that within a minute of the driver’s departure, a medium-sized bear had climbed up the stairs, crossed the deck,\u00a0clamped his jaws around the pizza box, and ambled into the bush.<\/p>\n
The bear left the container of wings behind, but\u00a0while the young woman\u00a0was still telling him the story, the animal returned to pilfer what was left of her dinner order.<\/p>\n
“I thought he might as well have the buffalo wings and enjoy the full meal,” Bannon said. “Once he did that, I shooed him away with a marine air horn, and he took off.”<\/p>\n
