A rematch of the 2024 US Open final is the headliner of the 2025 US Open women’s singles semifinals on Thursday night.<\/p>\n
No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka takes on No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula, one of two American semifinalists. <\/p>\n
The other American left in the women’s draw, No. 8 seed Amanda Anisimova, faces a tough test as well against No. 23 seed and four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka. <\/p>\n
Both matches should be played at championship match quality and should be a great lead-in to Saturday’s final.<\/p>\n
US Open Women’s Semifinals Schedule<\/p>\n
No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka vs. No. 4 Jessica Pegula (7 p.m. ET, ESPN)<\/p>\n
No. 8 Amanda Anisimova vs. No. 23 Naomi Osaka (immediately after first semifinal)<\/p>\n
Sabalenka and Osaka are the established powers in the two semifinals. <\/p>\n
Sabalenka is the reigning US Open champion and a finalist at the last five hard-court majors.<\/p>\n
She hasn’t lost a Grand Slam hard-court semifinal since the 2022 US Open, when she lost to eventual champion Iga Swiatek.<\/p>\n
Pegula is only in her second Grand Slam semifinal. She reached last year’s final in New York and was competitive with Sabalenka. The 2024 champion won both sets by 7-5 scores. <\/p>\n
Sabalenka owns a 7-2 head-to-head record against Pegula and she enters Thursday on more rest after a walkover in the quarterfinals due to Marketa Vondrousova’s injury. <\/p>\n
Osaka is in her first Grand Slam semifinal since the 2021 Australian Open, but when she’s at her best, she’s difficult to stop, especially on hard courts. Osaka is a two-time champion at both the Australian and US Opens. <\/p>\n
Osaka’s last two wins over No. 3 seed Coco Gauff and No. 11 seed Karolina Muchova showed how dominant she can still be on the New York hard court. She won both of those matches in straight sets. <\/p>\n
The No. 23 seed owns the edge in experience, but Anisimova is one of the most in-form players on the WTA Tour. <\/p>\n
Anisimova reached the Wimbledon final and she’s lost a single set at the US Open. <\/p>\n
The eighth-seeded American also owns a 2-0 head-to-head record against Osaka. One of those wins occurred at a hard-court major back in Australia in 2022. <\/p>\n
Anisimova appears to have a much better shot at winning on Thursday night out of the pair of Americans. <\/p>\n
